The Tanzanian government has embarked on revamping the old metre gauge railway network built a century ago, to transport goods to EAC neighbours from Dar es Salaam and Tanga ports. Tanzania's recent move is similar to that of Kenya and Uganda who have announced plans to revamp their old lines, despite uncertainty on the progress of the joint standard gauge railway line on the northern corridor.
